Thunderbird Mail Guide

About Thundrbird

Mozilla Thunderbird is an electronic mail client software developed by the Mozilla Foundation. On December 7, 2004, version 1.0 was released and downloaded over 500,000 times in its first 3 days. As of 2007, Thunderbird has been downloaded more than 50 million times

Thunderbird is a mail client (MUA) application that functions the same as Outlook Express, Eudora Mail, Evolution, Sylpheed, and the like. Thunderbird is one of the derivative products from Mozilla. At first Mozilla always packaged its application with Browser and Mail Client. However, Mozilla is trying to break down its product and make it much more attractive and lightweight. The Project Browser is called: FireFox, while the Project Mail Client is called: Thunderbird.

Thunderbird is produced for several operating systems, including: Windows, Linux (Unix), or MacosX. Thunderbird has the ability to switch themes, and can be added with plugins. Thunderbird can also import settings and mail from Outlook Express, Mozilla or Netscape. Thunderbird can function as an RSS feeder, which is to read or check RSS-style blogs.

Features of Mozilla Thunderbird

• Email tab. Thunderbird has an interface similar to a web browser. The email will open in a new tab so that users can read the full email.

• Contact book. Thunderbird allows users to add new contacts to the contact book.

How to Use Mozilla Thunderbird

1. Mozilla Thunderbird is based on open source or free, you can use it freely. The application can be installed on the page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

2. After it has finished installing, then run the program via the shortcut on the desktop or search from the start menu, usually after completion of the installation will appear the Account Wizard display, select the email account menu to create an email client service.

3. Then fill in the requested data such as your Name, email address and password. Then press the Continue button.

4. In the next window specify the protocol configuration options you want to use, POP3 or IMAP. A little difference between POP3 vs IMAP is basically, if you choose the POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) protocol then all the emails you want to open and read will be downloaded and stored on the computer used and can be reopened without an internet connection. As for the IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) protocol, in addition to downloads, emails will be stored on the server and there is synchronization between email clients.

5. When finished setting press the Create Account button, and you're done. You can view your email account on the panel shown on the left of the Thunderbird app.

Pros of Mozilla Thunderbird

1. Has a Tab Feature that allows you to display e-mail in multitabs, just like Mozilla Firefox Browser. This is an innovative breakthrough and makes it easy for users to read e-mail.

2. Has a Search Feature that is both multitab and equipped with filters and indexes that allow you to search for the desired e-mail faster.

3. Has an Archive feature to fill e-mails that you still need and will save.

4. Has additional features such as the ability to change the e-mail theme and a myriad of add-ons that can be installed in the Thunderbird application.

Because it will set Thunderbird to read and send email, then select Email Accounts and then click Next.

2. A new dialog box pops up asking to enter your name and email.

This name will later appear as the sender name of the email sent. If you have filled in your name and email address, click Next.

3. Next will appear the incoming settings display (POP / IMAP) and outgoing server (SMTP). Select POP and enter the domain name as incoming or outgoing server.
Make sure the domain name filled in is correct, the writing is not accompanied by http:// or www, so only the domain name, for example tokopesawat.com (according to the domain name). Click Next.

4. The next step is to fill in the email address completely, including the domain name.

5. Account Name is free to fill in the name for this account. This naming is especially useful when using multiple emails at once in Thunderbird. For example email for work, email for Facebook, email for mailing list etc.

After giving this account a name, click Next.

6. The Thunderbird setting process has been completed. Details of the settings that have been entered will appear.

If you are not sure about the existing settings, you can edit it by clicking the Back button to return to the previous settings page. The Download message now option may not be selected if you don't want to read the email. If you are sure of the settings, click Finish.

7. If the Download message now option is selected, Thunderbird will directly download the email from the server and a dialog appears asking for the email password.

If you want Thunderbird to remember the password so that the password request dialog doesn't appear, just click on the Use Password Manager to remember this password option. But if you prefer to type a password every time you check your email, don't check that option.
